Submissions - Updated June 22nd, 2009

A Golden Place is currently accepting outside submissions from April 1st, 2009, through August 1st, 2009, for our September 1st issue, themed "The Butterfly Effect". "The Butterfly Effect" can be defined as a seemingly small or inconsequential detail or action that causes a large reaction or extreme result that was unforeseen at the time it was made. An example would be forgetting to buy a lottery ticket with your usual numbers only once in twenty years, but on that day, your numbers came up. All submissions must espouse this theme and be emailed on or before August 1st, 2009. We accept theme related poetry of less than 500 words, creative nonfiction less than 3,000 words, and fiction less than 5,000 words. We also accept book reviews for books published less than a year from the date of our next issue, written about fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry collections and short story collections. These books must be available at major books stores where they are seen by a majority of the public, such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Borders. We offer no payment for submissions, but rather exposure to the multitudinous online reading public for your writing. We require exclusive electronic rights for six months, the length of each current issue. We require nonexclusive electronic rights after the six month period is over to maintain complete issues in our archives. Our editors reserve the right to edit submissions for space, grammar, and other errors.

Guidelines for submissions

We are seeking entertaining writing with well developed characters, realistic plots and the use of literary techniques. All writing should be original and new; plagiarism is not tolerated.

All writing should be edited and proofread for errors, including spelling and grammatical errors.

We will not accept the following: sing-song poetry or that of the greeting card type, flash fiction, fan fiction, anything that remotely reads like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, any writing that is slanderous or defamatory or attempts to incite violence, writing disguised as fiction that attempts to promote a religious or political agenda, gratuitous swearing or erotica, how-to articles, self-help, or previously published writing.

We only accept writing from authors over the age of thirteen.
